Smartphones in the Interpersonal Relationships of College Students

The evolution of mobile telephony brought about improvements in aspects such as the communication of people, however, these functionalities were also detrimental due to the misuse that is given day after day, to the point that face-to-face interaction was replaced in most occasions by messages. The purpose of the research is to analyze the theoretical and empirical studies regarding the involvement of smartphones in psychological health, the development of interaction and how nomophobia derives from these bad practices, positioning itself as a main limiting factor in young university students. A documentary review of articles was carried out in the Scielo, Redalyc and Researchgate databases regarding psychological development resulting from the use of smartphones, the change from personal to virtual interaction and nomophobia as a new global trend to provide an idea of the risks involving. In conclusion, smartphones affect the interpersonal relationships of young people because the behaviors, thinking and ways of interacting suffer many limitations and negative consequences due to the facilities provided by the changes in communication.
