This article presents the role of women from the approach that the Church has given her, both historically and socially, especially within the reality
of Brazil, the country with the largest number of Catholics in the world. After a consistent review of the past, the author highlights some current ecclesial challenges in Latin America, from the proposal of the Theology of Liberation to the recent reflections of Pope Francis on role of women. Finally, a Mariological perspective is exposed, which could serve as a guide to empower the presence and commitment of Latin American women in the contemporary Church.
