The pedagogy of death is an educational approach that aims to address the processes of death and mourning in an open and inclusive way in the social and educational sphere. Its main goal is to raise awareness about death as an inevitable part of the human experience and to help people cope with grief and loss in healthier and more constructive ways.
The COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the need for education that prepares the population to face their losses. This pedagogy is characterized by promoting openness to dialogue about death and creating a space where people can share their thoughts, feelings and concerns related to this topic. It recognizes that beliefs and customs around death vary widely between cultures and religions and therefore accommodates different cultural and spiritual perspectives. In addition, promotes mutual understanding and respect.
The pedagogy of death aims to demystify death, challenge stereotypes and unfounded fears and see death as a natural process and an integral part of life. Additionally, it provides emotional support and resources to those who are grieving, recognizing that this process is personal and that different people may need different types of support.
