Interview with Mons. Dr. Antonio Cañizares Llovera

Antonio Cañizares Llovera was born in the Valencian town of Utiel in 1945 and studied ecclesiastical studies at the Diocesan Seminary of Valencia and at the Pontifical University of Salamanca, where he obtained a doctorate in Theology. He was ordained a priest on June 21, 1970 and the first years of his priestly ministry were developed in Valencia. He then moved to Madrid where he dedicated himself especially to teaching. He taught at the Pontifical University of Salamanca, at the Conciliar Seminary of Madrid and at the Higher Institute of Religious Sciences and Catechesis. Subsequently, he was director of the Secretariat of the Episcopal Commission for the Doctrine of the Faith of the Spanish Episcopal Conference. In 1992 Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Avila. Then, Pope Benedict XVI will appoint him Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments in 2008. Finally, Cardinal Antonio Cañizares is appointed Archbishop of Valencia by Pope Francis on August 28, 2014. And while visiting Peru, he shared significant memories of his childhood, his longing for teaching and his reflections on the future of humanity and the importance of the family.
