Abstract

Since 20th century, there was a process of rediscovery and revaluation for afro descendant in Peru and which includes a revaluation of their cultural contribution trough a rescue of their music, dance and theatre. All these were possible thanks to people like Jose Durand, the Santa Cruz brothers (Nicomedes and Victoria) who make it possible the rescue from oblivion this topic called «negritude».
However, all this process consolidates because of governments like Jose Luis Bustamante´s and General Juan Velasco Alvarado, which make an effort to promote and disseminate the development of national music. Even though there is recognition, we do not see yet a total revalue because the afro descendants are still being treated with suspicion and as second- class citizens.
