The article discusses the teaching of religious education within the Alternative Basic Education Center (CEBA) Manuel Gonzáles Prada Huaycán from Metropolitan Lima. Situations of violence affecting the lives, safety and proper coexistence of students and their families are presented in this migrant urban space. The kinds of violence with which the students live, both at home and in the neighborhood; the dynamics of teaching of religion into the CEBA ””where the professor of religion is the only figure in the Catholic Church””, lack of linkages between school with other instances of Catholic education in the Diocese of Chosica, and contributions of evangelical or Protestant religions in the area on issues of violence, which is recognized by many students will be discussed through an etnographic view. Finally, contributions, constraints and limits on the religion course in urban contexts with unfavorable situations, as the case analyzed are presented.
