Biological Activity of Malathion 4% P.S. in the control of immature stages of the maize weevil Sitophilus zeamais Motsch. (Coleoptera: Curculionidae). Under laboratory conditions of 27 ± 2 ° C and 70 + 5% RH, we proceeded to infest 5 batches of yellow corn; each batch of 1 kg of weight, with approximately 1000 adult insects of S. zeamais of 1 to 2 weeks of age. After two weeks of keeping adults about 5 batches of maize infestation were removed and discarded with the help of a sieve. Immediately, we proceeded to try 4 of the 5 batches of beads at doses of 5, 10, 20 and 40 ppm with the insecticide Malathion 4% P.S., leaving a batch as untreated control. The statistical results of the analysis of variance (ANOVA) show a high regulate adult emergence of S. zeamais in treatments at doses of 5 and 10 ppm. As for the higher doses of 20 and 40 ppm low insect adult emergence were observed, probably due to the greater effect of inhibiting the growth of S. zeamais within grains by the fumigant action of Malathion.
